Dec 29, 2024 · At the time of Astro's Playroom launch, Team Asobi was a development unit within the wider Japan Studio. But in 2021, Sony closed the developer, and spun Team Asobi out as its own company. Back then, Team Asobi was around 35 employees, and has since grown to more than 60, and Doucet expects that number to reach around 100 people.

Sep 7, 2024 · The Ape Escape tease was a brilliant proof of concept. Asobi's game feel + the more exploratory sandbox-y style you get finding and capturing the apes. They could alternate between Astro Bot and Ape Escape, and it wouldn't feel redundant.

Astro Bot is based heavily on Mario Galaxy, but imagine if an Astro Bot 2 was inspired by the more open sandbox worlds of Mario Odyssey, or the obstacle courses of Mario 3D World. Which is to say, Team Asobi could easily do an Astro Bot 2 that still feels fresh next to its predecessor.

Essentially they're a Japan Studios spinoff studio that's actually been around longer than most probably realize and most likely have at least some amount of people there who worked on the Ape Escape games.
