SoMa, short for South of Market is a large area encompassing the business and residential districts south of Market Street and bordering the Mission and Potrero Hill. It’s full of warehouses converted to trendy lofts and other large-scale new construction to accommodate the young professionals who’ve moved to the area.

There is so much of the city in this neighborhood, parks, world class museums, fancy new apartment complexes, and the tallest skyscraper in town. But the best feature is the brand new elevated park at the transit center. The landscaping and peaceful areas are fabulous, and the city is all around you.

South of Market San Francisco is a popular district with top museums, shows, and restaurants. It's a short walk or cab ride from Union Square and easy to get to from Fisherman's Wharf. The neighborhood is often known as SOMA.
