It all began the afternoon of 2nd April 2018, when the KWS Community Warden alerted us about an orphaned baby elephant in Meru National Park. She had been found on her own, separated from her family in a suspected incident of human-wildlife conflict.

Our Keepers and pilot have rescued dozens and dozens of orphaned elephants between them, but they were shocked by the tiny bundle before them. The calf was impossibly small, even for a newborn, barely hitting knee height.
