The new girlfriend of jailed abuser Ryan Wellings, 30, reportedly told her friends 'there are two sides to every story' after they warned her about his behaviour

Ryan Wellings has been imprisoned for six and a half years for the abuse and assault of his partner, Kiena Dawes, who took her own life. Wellings, 30, was found guilty of controlling and coercive behaviour and actual bodily harm (ABH) after a trial at Preston Crown Court lasting six weeks, though he was acquitted of manslaughter by the jury.

The former partner of a young mother who took her own life has been cleared of her manslaughter. Ryan Wellings, from Bispham in Lancashire, was accused of subjecting Kiena Dawes to sustained domestic violence and abuse.

Wellings, 30, was acquitted of manslaughter by the jury at Preston Crown Court. Handing down the sentence, The Honorary Recorder of Preston, Judge Robert Altham, said Wellings was 'a clear danger to any future partner'. Wellings showed no emotion throughout the sentence hearing or when he was led away to the cells.

Ryan Wellings was convicted of subjecting Kiena Dawes to prolonged domestic abuse and assault, but acquitted of the more serious charge. It was the first time a defendant has been tried before a jury accused of unlawful killing of his partner following a domestic abuse-related suicide.
