Helldivers 2, from developer Arrowhead, is of course heavily inspired by cult classic sci-fi movie Starship Troopers. It sees soldiers of the future struggle to defend a fascist Super Earth regime against alien robots called Automatons and bugs called Terminids all the while preaching "Managed Democracy."

The Helldivers 2 film is one of a number of adaptations announced by Sony at CES, including film productions of Horizon Zero Dawn and Until Dawn, and an anime series based on Ghost of Tsushima — not to mention the release window for The Last of Us Season 2.

Sony is producing a Helldivers 2 movie in collaboration with Sony Pictures. The film may feature soldiers fighting against Terminids, Automatons, or Illuminate. Sony aims to follow successful video game movie adaptations like Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and The Last of Us TV series.

Sony’s CES 2025 press conference delivered some thrilling news for gamers, with the announcement of film adaptations for two popular games: 202024 co-op FPS hit Helldivers 2 and the critically acclaimed 2017 action RPG Horizon Zero Dawn.
