The incident occurred just after 11:30 a.m. near Getty and Crooks avenues, when a driver from Madison crashed into four other cars and then hit a 52-year-old pedestrian from Newton.
Robert Decker, who is also a 20-year firefighting veteran, was working his full-time job at Wallington Plumbing Supply when he saw smoke and flames in a home nearby.
