Police say Edgar Maddison Welch was pulled over Saturday night as a passenger in a traffic stop because he had an outstanding warrant.

The man who showed up armed to a Washington, D.C., pizzeria after falling for a debunked conspiracy involving allegations of child sex trafficking was shot to death in a traffic stop.

He pled guilty to a to a federal charge of interstate transportation of a firearm and ammunition, and a D.C. charge of assault with a dangerous weapon.

Welch pleaded guilty to federal charges and was sentenced to four years in prison in 2017 by now-Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, who was then a district judge.
