Texas Republicans will resume pushing through U.S. House maps that would carve out a bigger GOP advantage in the 2026 elections after state Democrats indicated they were ready to end a two-week walkout.

The third-term governor appears determined to win any battle — even if it means scorched-earth primary crusades or trying to boot duly elected legislators from office.

After a two-week quorum break that shut down the first special session, Texas House Democrats are expected to return to the state Capitol on Monday. The first session ended without any legislation passed.

Polling conducted by McLaughlin and Associates, which has worked for President Donald Trump, showed that Abbott saw a 5-point bump in approval after he opted to veto Senate Bill 3—the original legislation to prohibit THC in Texas—while Patrick's ratings dropped among voters who lean heavily Republican.
