Dubai has completed the first piloted test flight of all-electric vehicle takeoff and landing (eVTOL) air taxis, and early results are promising.

The traffic-busting Dubai flying taxis are expected to arrive in the city next year with flights taking off from four key points of the city initially. A collaboration between the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority, JOBY Aviation and Skyports Infrastructure, the air taxi is set to transform public transport as we know it.

According to the company, a trip from Dubai International Airport (DXB) to Palm Jumeirah using its aerial taxi will take just 12 minutes—compared to approximately 45 minutes by car.
