A criminal network forging artworks from Banksy, Andy Warhol, and Pablo Picasso has been uncovered by Italian police. Investigators said on Monday they had seized more than 2,100 fake pieces of art - with a potential market value of about €200m (£165m) - and discovered two forgery workshops in Tuscany,

Police seized hundreds of millions of euros worth of forged paintings attributed to Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Banksy and others. The suspects allegedly attempted to sell the artworks at auction houses.

The investigation so far spans Italy, Spain, France and Belgium, with suspects under investigation for conspiracy to handle stolen goods, forgery and illegal sale of artworks. News of the investigation was jointly announced by the paramilitary Carabinieri art squad and the Pisa prosecutors’ office and first reported by Reuters.
