LONDON -- The Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that the U.K. equalities law defines a woman as someone born biologically female. Justice Patrick Hodge said five judges at the court had ruled unanimously that “the terms ‘woman’ and ‘sex’ in the Equality Act refer to a biological woman.”

Lord Hodge - the UK Supreme Court judge - has ruled that the Equality Act's definition of a 'woman' is to be based on biological sex. The politician added that this should not be viewed as a triumph for right-leaning representatives, claiming the law will still give transgender people protection against discrimination.
