The police watchdog is reviewing the Metropolitan Police’s handling of abuse allegations against Mohamed Fayed.The former Harrods owner has been accused of sexual assault by more than 20 women since his death last year at the age of 94.

One lawyer representing the Justice for Harrods Survivors group called it the worst case of corporate abuse of women the world has ever seen.

The Metropolitan Police has referred itself to the police watchdog over complaints from two women about the handling of investigations into allegations made against Mohamed Al Fayed. The two women made complaints about investigations from 2008 and 2013.

The Met previously said it was conducting a "detailed and thorough" review after facing criticism about how it dealt with the rape and sexual assault allegations against Mohamed al Fayed.

The police watchdog will review how Metropolitan Police officers handled allegations of sexual misconduct against former Harrods owner Mohamed Al Fayed. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) will review two cases the Met Police investigated in 2008 and 2013 after the force referred itself.
