A crucial faction of politically vulnerable Democrats joined with Republicans to lift the Laken Riley bill to passage on a 263-156 vote tally.

The U.S. Congress on Wednesday delivered Republican President Donald Trump legislation requiring the detention of immigrants living in the U.S. illegally who are accused of theft, with a significant number of Democrats voting in favor.

The bill would allow Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to arrest and detain undocumented immigrants accused of theft-related crimes.

“Today, I will sign a series of historic executive orders. With these actions, we will begin the complete restoration of America, and the revolution of common sense,” said Trump, who at midday Monday became only the second U.S. president to serve nonconsecutive terms, after Grover Cleveland in the late 1800s.
