A person with knowledge of the hiring says the New York Jets and Aaron Glenn have agreed to terms on making the Detroit Lions defensive coordinator their head coach.

The Detroit Lions have gone through a brain drain within the coaching staff in the aftermath of their season-ending loss to the Washington Commanders in the divisional round. Since that defeat, Ben Johnson has been hired as the head coach of the Chicago Bears and Aaron Glenn has inked a deal to lead the New York Jets,

New York hired Glenn, most recently the Detroit Lions defensive coordinator, as their next head coach, ahead of his scheduled in-person interview with New Orleans. It’s a five-year deal, according to league sources.

He becomes the fifth NFL head coach to have a playing history with his current team, after Mike Vrabel (New England Patriots), Jim Harbaugh (Los Angeles Chargers), DeMeco Ryans (Houston Texans) and Dan Campbell, his most recent boss in Detroit.

Glenn and the Jets will need to hire assistant all across the locker room in New York to help out the new head coach, from the various coordinator positions to positional-specific roles. Those hires are slowly starting to be announced.

The New York Jets have already poached their new head coach, Aaron Glenn, from the Detroit Lions, but they could look to steal even more.
