On the eve of a special legislative session called by Gov. Ron DeSantis, Republican lawmakers Sunday filed a flurry of bills to crack down on undocumented immigrants and place additional restrictions on the ballot initiative process.

Governor Ron DeSantis, Sheriff T.K. Waters, and State Representative Kiyan Michael (D-Jacksonville Beach) joined state and federal law enforcement for a roundtable discussion on immigration policy in Jacksonville on Thursday.

For the last six years, Gov. Ron DeSantis has been used to getting his way with the state Legislature, at times slashing the priorities of Republican leaders and calling them back to Tallahassee to pass bills that boost his political profile.
