More than 260 weak and hungry Rohingya refugees, mostly women and children, have landed in Indonesia in two boats, officials said Monday.

STORY: Over 200 Rohingya arrived by boat in Indonesia’s Aceh province on Sunday (January 5) evening.That’s according to an official on Monday (January 6).This adds to the growing number of Rohingya people coming to the country by sea.

More than 260 Rohingya refugees, including women and children, arrived in Indonesia's westernmost province of Aceh after floating at sea for days, an official said on Monday. The mostly Muslim ethnic Rohingya are heavily persecuted in Myanmar and thousands risk their lives each year on long and dangerous sea journeys to reach Malaysia or Indonesia.

Over 260 Rohingya refugees, mainly women and children, arrived in Indonesia. Authorities coordinate with UNHCR for their safety. The Rohingya, mostly living in Bangladesh camps, face harsh conditions and seek asylum.
