Courtney Williams scored a season-high 26 points, Kayla McBride hit a deep 3-pointer with 30.8 seconds left and the Minnesota Lynx beat the defending WNBA champion New York Liberty 86-80.
It marked the third meeting between the two teams in the past 18 days. The Lynx — who own the WNBA’s best record at 28-5 — won the first meeting 100-93 on July 30 at Target Center and the second 83-71 last Sunday in New York. Round four comes Tuesday at Barclays Center.
It's been quite a haul for the New York Liberty, who are still playing without Breanna Stewart at this time. Yet the Liberty have been able to hang around stay within some distance of the first-place Minnesota Lynx.
