Mark Vawter was shot outside the courthouse after he pulled a gun on a group of inmates targeting the man accused of killing his great-grandchildren.

Family confirmed to 13News the man killed was the great-grandfather of two young children who died when a police chase ended in a fiery crash on Feb 5. State police identified him as 65-year-old Mark Vawter, of Plainfield. State police say Vawter was outside the courthouse before the inmate transport van arrived.
