With so many in the Altadena community devastated by the damage of the Eaton Fire, the community is coming together to help each other with a meal to eat, and in some cases a place to sleep.

The Black community in Altadena, Los Angeles County, has been devastated by the uncontrolled Eaton Fire, which has scorched over 10,600 acres and claimed over 20 lives. Residents and supporters are turning to social media to share the devastating impact of the uncontrolled fire,

Members of Altadena Community Church had just learned their pastor, who has Parkinson's disease, was retiring. Then the Eaton fire burned the church to the ground.

Lynne Hanamoto of Temple City distributed name tags and pointed guests to a bowl of 1,000 paper cranes, or orizuru, originally shared to signify peace and healing after the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II. Hanamoto has friends from Pacific Palisades and Altadena who have lost their homes.

Amid the rubble from the thousands of Altadena homes burned during the Eaton Fire lies the remnants of a parish's decades-old house of worship.
