More than 100 Post Office branches and some 1,000 jobs are at risk under a sweeping overhaul. The Post Office revealed it was looking to offload 115 directly-owned branches within its 11,500 network, which could see them transferred to retail partners or postmasters, or potentially closed.

An MP says he is "deeply alarmed" that a Post Office branch has appeared on an "at risk" list in a town facing bank closures. Liberal Democrat MP Tim Farron expressed dismay the site in Kendal, Cumbria, could be lost as part of a "shake-up" of the business.

Up to 32 Post Office branches across London could close as part of a national shake-up aimed at restructuring the taxpayer-owned business. The capital could see more closures than any other region, making up about 28% of the 115 stores earmarked branches across the UK.
