The government runs out of funding Friday at midnight, leaving Democrats to decide whether to help Republicans pass a bill to avoid a shutdown or block the bill and be blamed for triggering one.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has said Democrats will stand in the way of efforts to pass a Republican-led budget patch that passed the House earlier this week with almost no bipartisan support.
