In a statement Friday evening, Chicago Public Schools leaders said that after their initial comments went out about ICE agents, they learned the agents were from the Secret Service. The false alarm heightened fears among immigrant communities in the country’s third-largest city.

School officials said ICE agents tried to enter Hamline Elementary Friday morning, spurring panic. The Secret Service later claimed responsibility.

The numbers could indicate that the Trump administration’s show of force has so far outpaced the government’s ability to quickly deport more migrants.
