A day after replacing the fired Derek Lalonde as Detroit coach, and without even one full practice under his belt with his new club, Todd McLellan was behind the bench on Friday in a 5-2 Red Wings loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs at Little Caesars Arena.

New Detroit Red Wings head coach Todd McLellan has only been on the job for a day. He took over for Derek Lalonde on Boxing Day after Detroit fired their now-former bench boss. However, McLellan has no time to evaluate his team.

It never panned out; the Red Wings finished seventh his first season and missed the playoffs on a tiebreaker last season. The team is off to a 13-17-4 start this season and has lost nine of its last 12 games,
