Russia launched a record number of drones at Ukraine overnight into Friday, striking multiple buildings and residential areas, hours after US President Donald Trump said he had made “no progress” towards a ceasefire deal in a phone call with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

Putin told Trump during the call that Russia won’t back down from its goals in Ukraine, according to Yuri Ushakov, a close adviser to the Russian president, despite the U.S. leader’s calls for a speedy end of the conflict.

President Donald Trump spoke with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, on Friday, just a day after he talked with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in a call that he has described as a disappointment amid his attempts to end the war in Ukraine.
