Apple's A16 chips are now being manufactured on American soil at TSMC's Arizona plant, according to Taiwan-based independent journalist

The iPhone 16 family of phones all use a chip called A18, which is made by TSMC. Both chips are made on a second-generation 3nm process, and appear to be the same aside from a binned version used in the non-Pro phones.

TSMC has started production in its first US fabrication unit in Arizona. It's manufacturing Apple's A16 processors.

Apple introduced its A16 Bionic processor in September 2022, along with its iPhone 14 Pro. Nowadays, this SoC is used for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, as the iPhone 14 Pro has been discontinued.

Apple A16 chips are now being made in TSMC’s US chipmaking plant in Arizona, according to a new report. It’s said that while yield rates are lower than those achieved in Taiwan, they are very close to hitting the same standards. The big mystery, however, is why Apple would want to make new A16 chips. Which new product might use them … ?

TSMC has reportedly started production of Apple's iPhone chips in its Arizona foundry, with the first to be made in America set to be the A16.

Interestingly, the U.S. fab building the APs is expected to reach yield parity with Taiwan in just a few months. The SoC is built using an enhanced 5nm process node which most of us media types have called 4nm.

Way back in 2022, Apple CEO Tim Cook stood next to President Biden at TSMC's new fab in Arizona and proclaimed the company would be first in line for the chips rolling off the manufacturing line in a few years.
