As the Colts' star in Richardson has shown flashes, he is still competing against Jones, who has experience in the league with his time on the New York Giants, though it was an inconsistent stint. In the preseason loss to Green Bay, Jones would start the contest and played two drives, compared to the 23-year-old Richardson, who had the next three.

Given Richardson's injury history plus general concerns about his development stagnating because of the turbulent start to his NFL career, Indianapolis signed former New York Giants first-round pick Daniel Jones to a one-year, $14 million contract to push Richardson and compete for the starting quarterback job.

He's talented and we knew it was going to be a long-term project," Dodds said. On the field this summer, Richardson has made clear strides with his overall accuracy and decision-making.

Richardson took a positive step on short and intermediate throws, but Daniel Jones also had a solid showing as the QB competition continues.
