U.S. President Donald Trump ordered the National Guard to be mobilized to quell protests in Los Angeles, despite California Gov. Gavin Newsom's objections. In a June 8 post on Truth Social, Trump claimed the troops had been successful even though the troops had not yet been deployed on the ground at the time of his post.

The National Guard has been deployed to Los Angeles in the past in response to civil disorder and natural disasters.
