where did everyone buy their umbrellas?
A:
The host of our villa had umbrellas for us to use. There was also a vendor who rented them out by the day. We went during peak season, she may not be there off season.

Can anyone give specific directions how to get here? Is it before Santana’s and Moms bakery area if your coming from Georgetown? Are the trash cans you turn by on the right or left side of the road? Directions here are very confusing since signs are hard to come by and there are a lot of trash cans. Thanks in advance!

Yes when traveling south from Georgetown we stopped at Santana's for directions, and were told to turn back about 5 minutes the other way. If you reach Santana's you've gone too far. Look for a blue trash bin container on the left side and make the left there. There's a little sign, but it's bent out of shape and not too easy to see. The road in in very rough, take your time driving. You'll see the beautiful beach and plenty of parking, not crowded at all.

HI! Thanks for your write up about Tropic of Cancer beach. WE are planning a family trip in January for my husband's 50th. We have teenagers and wonder where is the best place to rent a house. We found a nice house on Jolly Holly Beach we are considering. The houses near Georgetown is cheaper but I've heard Tropic of Cancer is the nicest beach. Is there much point to renting a house near Georgetown to be closer to the center of the island? I think it is about a 30 min drive to Tropic of Caner beach from Georgetown. We will rent a car but I don't want to be isolated. Did you take day trips? What were your favorite things/restaurants/tour companies you used? I'd love any tips/feedback! Thanks!

If you've never been to the island, the market in Georgetown is a must stop. I found the prices very high but they have to import everything. There is a water plant (building)on the island where you can buy drinking water by the 5 gal jugs. Bring empty drink bottles for refilling to take to the beaches with you. Also you should bring instant coffee, tea, drink mixes, instant oatmeal/cereal, instant potatoes, snacks, can tuna(for lunches, can chicken salad and other things you like to eat for meals. Three of us ate out and it cost us $100 per meal. The roasted chicken at Prime Meat and Deli near Jolly Beach is excellent and cost us $16.00 for a whole chicken. It was worth it.
