What a fabulous town, it has old and new beautifully blending together. Cafes, shops ( not ridiculously expensive), bought some gifts and they wrapped them at no extra cost. A lovely relaxed feel abo…Full review by CheetOwls

We stayed overnight on each end of us riding the Bernina Express and it was delightful walking through the old town. We especially liked walking through the pedestrian street and wandering through so…Full review by houstontravelingfool

It's a beautiful old town, cute and very well preserved. Probably one of the best old towns in Switzerland. As most old towns it's not very large. It should take you 2-3 hours to cover all of it.Full review by Ron S

We are 2 seniors with knee issues so not very good with steps or distance. We arrive in Chur on Bernina Express overnight in Chur then hop on the Glacier Express the next day bound for Zermatt where we will spend 2 nights. I was thinking 1) we'd stay at the hotel ABC in Chur which is closest to the railway station where we won't need a taxi but I am not sure how far/near this hotel is to the town centre where we hope to walkabout and eat. 2) is it better to stay in the town centre (hotel suggestion please) and taxi to/from railway station, Any advice appreciated... Cheers

I am not familiar with the ABC Hotel. However, last year we stayed at Hotel Post. It's convenient to the railway station, and to the old town, and to all the various restaurants etc. The staff were incredibly helpful, breakfast was excellent, and the rooms recently refurbished and spotlessly clean. There is also tourist information at the station and staff there are also very helpful.

We arrive in Tirano about mid afternoon by train from Venice on 30 April, 2015. Overnight in Tirano then Bernina Express to Chur on 1st May. Next day 2nd May we take train to Zurich for overnight before flight to Paris in the afternoon about 5PM on 3rd May. My questions: Stay in Tirano and get the 3PM "Bernina Express" train arriving Chur 19:03 (what do we do in Tirano for the morning/early afternoon) if we have been there the previous afternoon.,? OR Take an earlier train from Tirano: The Rhb Website shows the earlier train from Tirano to Chur as R, RE (WITH TWO CHANGES). So will it would appear not to be The Bernina Express. Part of our BIG TRIP is to be the Bernina Express Trip. As we will each have a suitcase and handluggage, I am not keen on changing trains, howerver, would like to arrive in Chur to have time to look around the Town before we take the train in Zurich next day (we are flexible with time but have hotel booking in Zurich on 2 May. So more to see in Chur or Tirano?? Realise all opinions are different. We are active oldies and love walking around and looking at old towns, buildings, have a coffee, wine etc. Thank you for any help

Our September trip was planned around the Bernina Express. We hadn't been able to find much information on Tirano before we arrived. However to our surprise, my husband and I felt Tirano was the greatest find of our nearly three week trip. We loved the people, the town, the river walk...and, we had three of our best meals there! I would suggest more time in Tirano. We spent two nights in Chur and wished we had traded one of those nights for one more night in Tirano.

I have read that Chur is a good base to connect via train travel in Switzerland. I will be traveling down into Switzerland from southern Germany heading for Murren. Would this be a good stop for a night along the way? When I look up train schedules they all seem to be sending us through Zurich which seems out of the way on route to Murren. Thank you for your advice.

I went on a pre planned Great Rail Journey and we stayed in Chur for three nights. You can walk round the old town in about two hours. The Swiss trains were excellent. Easy to get to a good many places from there. We stayed at the Romantik Hotel Stern in Chur, the bit we stayed is was lovely very oldy worldy BUT some rooms are near a clock that chimes except between 10pm and 6am. Nice bar and good food. About 600 yards from the station. We went on the Bernina Express from Chur to Poschiavo then returned via St Moritz..
