If there is something you specifically want to see just gather around and wait your tour. Or you can go on to other things and try back later. There are some informational cards by many displays, and you can enjoy looking at them as you wait.

My daughter had a small bag and I a side bag. Niether was a problem but the various guides around the museum tell one to keep the bag at your front to deter pickockets.
